Fen Phen

Navigation:  Home > Class Action Law> Fen Phen

Fen-phen is use, in combination, of fenfluramine and phentermine. Fenfluramine and phentermine are prescription drugs used as appetite suppressants in the short-term management of obesity. When fenfluramine and phentermine are used together, it is possible for the heart to develop valvular heart disease.

In the 1990s, more than 5.8 million Americans took drugs called Fen Phen, Redux and Pondimin to lose weight. Up to 20 percent lost their normal heart function. Patients who used the drugs for more than 45 days have a significant risk for heart troubles.American Home Products agreed to settle the major class action lawsuit pending against the company for approximately $3.75 billion. The AHP settlement provided refunds, testing and compensation to exposed persons with qualifying exposures and/or conditions, including heart damage. The settlement does not include persons with PPH or neuropsychological damage.

Persons with Fen-Phen related Heart valve damage are eligible to participate in a national class action settlement.
