We strongly discourage anyone from drinking and driving. In 1999, 41,000 people were killed in traffic fatalities; 40 percent were alcohol related. As the Supreme Court has noted about drunk driving, "The increasing slaughter on our highways, most of which should be avoidable, is now reaching the astounding numbers only heard on the battlefield."

Like suspected murderers, burglars, or even petty criminals, however, even drunken drivers should know the law and how it affects them. So, we offer this overview.
